The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called for an investigation into suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his associates over allegations surrounding the demolition of the state House of Assembly complex.

The call came after George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service (HoS), claimed that Fubara orchestrated the bombing to prevent his impeachment.

Chief Tony Okocha, the APC Chairman in Rivers State, urged security agencies to probe the claims. “Nwaeke’s account cannot be dismissed; as the Head of Service at the time, he was the number three man in the state,” Okocha stated.

He emphasized that the APC’s position on the matter had been validated by Nwaeke’s statements, accusing Fubara and his allies of being behind the attack on the Assembly complex.

The controversy arose when Nwaeke claimed he witnessed Fubara handing a bag of money to his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to destroy the building. Both Fubara and Ehie have vehemently denied the allegations.

Fubara’s Special Adviser on Electronic Media, Jerry Omotsegunwa, dismissed the claims as “laughable,” referring to Nwaeke’s confessions as inconsistent and poorly prepared.

“This was like something that was cooked up,” Omotsegunwa asserted. “Three confessions, three videos contradicting each other – which security agency would take that seriously?”

Despite the denials, Okocha insists that the probe is necessary for accountability. “Taxpayers’ money was misused, and the truth must be uncovered,” he added.
