The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has successfully screened and confirmed five nominees for the Rivers State Assembly Service Commission, as well as nominees for the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.

The confirmation followed a request from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, presented during a session at the Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House.

The confirmed nominees for the Assembly Service Commission include Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja as Chairman, with Barrister Jones Ogbonda, Dr. Kennedy Ebeku, Soberekon Clark, and Engineer Kingston Sylvernus serving as members. The nominees for the Local Government Service Commission are Goodlife Ben (Chairman), Chief Emmanuel Jaja, Mrs. Betty Warmate, Barrister Jerome Chimenem, Prince Philip Okparaji, and Christian Amadi.

Leader Sokari Goodboy Sokari praised the credibility of the nominees, urging the House to expedite their confirmation. “The credibility of people nominated by Governor Fubara to serve in these commissions is overwhelming,” Sokari said, appealing for a swift ratification.

Deputy Speaker Timothy Orubienimigha also endorsed the nominations, emphasizing that all the nominees were well-suited for the roles. “These nominees are perfect, and I urge the House for a speedy confirmation,” he added.

After the debate, Speaker Oko-Jumbo divided the House and confirmed the nominees through a voice vote. He highlighted the proven track records of the appointees, noting that three of the five nominees for the Assembly Service Commission were former members of the House. “Their ratification is a call to service,” Oko-Jumbo said, lauding the governor for his excellent choices.

As a sign of respect, three of the nominees who were former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were invited to take a bow and leave the chambers.
