Rivers State House of Assembly initiates impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially begun impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, citing alleged misconduct.
The move follows a notice issued on Monday, outlining the Assembly’s decision in line with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
This development escalates the ongoing political tensions in the state, particularly after the Supreme Court recognized 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a media chat last week, Wike remarked, “Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence.” His statement fueled further speculation about the future of Governor Fubara’s leadership.
The impeachment process intensifies the friction between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, with concerns growing over the stability of governance in Rivers State.
The outcome of this process remains uncertain as political players on all sides brace for potential consequences.
