Hundreds of women dressed in white took to the streets of Port Harcourt on Monday in a solidarity march backing the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Gathering as early as 8 a.m. at the Garrison Bus Stop in the city center, the women marched along Aba Road, singing solidarity songs in support of the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), and proceeded toward the Government House.
“The time has come for peace and order in our state. We support the actions taken to restore stability,” one of the rallying women declared amid chants.
Their demonstration came just days after another group, under the banner ‘Rivers Women for Sim,’ protested the emergency rule and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“We are here for the future of our children and our state. Enough is enough,” another participant said during the procession.
As of the time of filing this report, the peaceful demonstration was ongoing, drawing the attention of onlookers and passersby.
