Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially granted FirstBank Group approval to begin the construction of its state-of-the-art, eco-friendly headquarters in Eko Atlantic City. The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony held on March 5, 2025.
The new 40-storey building, once completed, will become the tallest structure in Nigeria. The bank described the project as a technological and environmental marvel, setting a new benchmark for the financial sector in Africa.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised FirstBank for leading the way in this groundbreaking initiative, saying, “FirstBank, as always, has taken the lead… This new city will serve as Africa’s model city.” He also extended gratitude to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor for granting approval and called for similar projects from other financial institutions.
The event was graced by prominent figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors of Ogun and Ondo states, and business moguls like Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola.
