Residents of the Abule Oki/Aboru community in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, have expressed their gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his timely intervention in fixing a dangerous canal that had plagued the area for years.

The community, represented by civil society groups, commended the governor during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, on Wednesday, March 13, 2025.

The canal, previously in a deplorable state, had caused significant damage during rainy seasons, including the tragic loss of lives. However, the state government’s swift response has brought relief to the residents. Olusegun Adeeko, Chairman of Know Your Right for Justice, highlighted the government’s commitment, stating,

“The contractors gave us a time frame for completion, and they even started a day earlier than promised. The rain that fell recently didn’t affect us as it used to. We are grateful.”

The Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, reiterated the government’s dedication to inclusive development under the THEMES Plus agenda. She said,

“Mr. Governor is passionate about ensuring every community benefits from our developmental projects. We are glad you can now sleep with your eyes closed, knowing no more lives will be lost to flooding.”

Community leader Olaiya Abulrazaq also praised the government’s efforts and appealed for further assistance in repairing minor street roads in the area.
