The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has declined requests for live television coverage of the proceedings involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.

The decision came after Akpoti-Uduaghan called for live media coverage of the hearing, which is focused on her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat allocation.

Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Committee, explained the committee’s stance during an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the matter at hand without external distractions.

“This is a matter within the Senate, and turning it into a media affair could be distracting,” Imasuen said, stressing that the committee room can only accommodate a limited number of people.

While ensuring that Akpoti-Uduaghan would receive a fair hearing, Imasuen assured, “She will receive a fair hearing in this matter for as long as I am in charge. She is my friend, and no one will trample on her rights.”

Imasuen also refrained from commenting on the ongoing controversy regarding alleged sexual misconduct in the Senate, citing the matter being sub judice in a court of law.
