In a landmark ruling on Friday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to halt the release of funds to the Rivers State government until the Rivers House of Assembly is properly constituted in line with the 1999 Constitution.

The Court also affirmed the legitimacy of the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers House of Assembly, recognizing its members as valid representatives of the legislative body.

The ruling is expected to have significant political and financial implications for the Rivers State government.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria is hereby restrained from releasing any funds to the Rivers State government until the House of Assembly is duly constituted,” the Court stated.

This decision marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal battles surrounding the composition and authority of Rivers State’s legislative body.
