In a major step towards improving the country’s healthcare sector, President Bola Tinubu on Thursday granted employment to 774 National Health Fellows, an initiative by the Federal Ministry of Health.
This move aims to cultivate a pipeline of health leaders to drive sustainable change in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
During the program’s launch at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that the fellows’ selection was more than just a recruitment process. “Your selection is more than a recruitment; it proves our commitment to creating a nation where equal opportunities are available to every Nigerian,” he said.
The initiative is part of Tinubu’s broader effort to empower Nigeria’s youth, with over 60% of the population under the age of 30. “This programme is a transformative initiative that underscores my administration’s commitment to harnessing the immense potential of Nigeria’s greatest asset—its young people,” he added.
Tinubu highlighted the significance of healthcare in national development, stating, “Healthcare is a critical pillar of national development. No country can thrive if its people are unhealthy.”
The fellows were selected from local councils across the nation, with the initiative receiving praise from key figures including Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Pate, who stressed the importance of the fellows in revolutionizing Nigeria’s health sector.
