Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has launched a major agricultural initiative aimed at ensuring year-round farming in the state.

The Dry Season Agricultural Empowerment Programme, unveiled at Murtala Square on Sunday, will distribute 100,000 bags of fertilizer, 10,000 water pumps, and a range of farming tools to boost productivity.

“We are launching the Dry Season Agricultural Empowerment Programme, a game-changing initiative designed to ensure that our farmers can produce food all year round,” Governor Sani said at the event.

Under the programme, the state will also distribute 500 power tillers, 2,000 knapsack sprayers for pest control, and procure 10,000 solar-powered water pumps to support irrigation during the dry season. Sani emphasized the commitment to providing high-quality seeds and agrochemicals to enhance farm productivity across Kaduna.

The governor also highlighted the increased budgetary allocation for agriculture, which saw a dramatic rise from N1.48 billion in 2023 to N74.02 billion in 2025, marking an astonishing 4,871 percent increase. “This level of commitment underscores the governor’s determination to make agriculture a pillar of economic growth,” said Murtala Dabo, the state’s commissioner for agriculture.

The programme aligns with the Malabo Declaration, with 10 percent of the 2025 state budget dedicated to the agricultural sector. Furthermore, Sani announced the ongoing construction of the Africa Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC) in partnership with Afreximbank, aiming to enhance agricultural exports and certification services.

Aliyu Abdullahi, the Minister of State for Agriculture, commended the initiative, stating, “The governor is putting his money where his mouth is,” and called on other states to follow suit to boost national agricultural productivity.

With this unprecedented investment, Governor Sani’s administration is positioning Kaduna as a leader in agricultural growth and food security in Nigeria.
