In a landmark gesture, Blessing Alims, the first female President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has awarded a N1 million prize to Moses Udofia, the university’s best graduating student.

Udofia, who hails from the Accounting Department, achieved an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.92/5.00.

Alims, who made the announcement on Sunday, explained that the award was a part of her administration’s effort to promote academic excellence and motivate students to remain focused on their studies.

“In line with my administration’s commitment to academic excellence, I have successfully transferred N1 million to Moses Udofia for his exceptional academic performance,” she stated.

The Cross River State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Michael Odere, also contributed N500,000 to further honor Udofia’s achievements.

Udofia expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “This award is a testament that academic excellence can still be celebrated despite the mediocrity in the education sector. I encourage other students to always be committed to their dreams, as success is achievable.”
