The Dangote Refinery has made a significant breakthrough by exporting over two million barrels of aviation fuel to the United States in March 2025.
This marks a major achievement for Nigeria’s energy sector, demonstrating the world-class quality of the refinery’s products and its growing influence in global fuel markets.
According to a statement from the refinery, six vessels carrying about 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel arrived in the US this month.
A seventh, the Hafnia Andromeda, is set to deliver an additional 348,000 barrels to the Everglades terminal on March 29. This shipment solidifies Dangote’s position as a key player in global fuel trade.
“This shipment to the United States follows three cargoes of jet fuel, totalling around 130 million litres, exported from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The refinery has already demonstrated its ability to compete with European refiners on gasoline exports,” the statement read.
Dr. Muda Yusuf, an economist and CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprises, expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing the global recognition of Dangote’s refinery. “Nothing could be more prideful for us as a country than the fact that we now have a refinery producing products that can be exported to the United States. It speaks to the quality, standards, and trust that international communities have in the Dangote refinery,” he said.
The refinery’s production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day positions it as a significant force in reshaping fuel trading dynamics, especially in the Atlantic Basin. With the United States as a major consumer of jet fuel, this move is poised to challenge domestic producers in the world’s largest fuel market.
