The Osun State Government is urging residents to prioritise safe sexual practices and avoid unprotected sex.

The government, through the Osun State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA), has announced plans to distribute free condoms and lubricants at selected malls and lounges across the state.

In a statement issued by Olusegun Daramola, the Executive Secretary of O-SACA, the government highlighted the importance of safe sexual practices to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS. Daramola emphasised that the occasion of Valentine’s Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about HIV prevention.

“HIV/AIDS remains a significant public health threat, and it’s essential to avoid risky behaviours, such as unprotected sexual intercourse,” Daramola said. “We encourage those who haven’t already done so to get tested and know their status.”

The government’s efforts align with the commitment of Governor Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to reduce HIV prevalence in Osun State.

“We invite everyone to join us in working towards ending AIDS by 2030,” Daramola added.

Residents can access free condoms and lubricants at various locations, including malls and lounges, where vendors will be available to distribute these essential resources. The initiative aims to foster safe behaviour during the Valentine’s Day celebrations.

“Let’s share love, not the disease,” the statement concluded.
