In a significant step toward advancing education in Nigeria, the formal handover for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State, took place yesterday in the Office of the Vice President.
His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, received the official documents from the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, marking the beginning of the university’s takeoff.
Vice President Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasized that the creation of the university is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to quality education, foster innovation in applied sciences, and strengthen the nation’s educational system.
“This milestone is part of the broader commitment to education reform, youth empowerment, and human capital development,” Vice President Shettima said. “The Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly focusing on education reform.”
He further revealed that President Tinubu had allocated funds in the 2025 Budget to ensure a smooth takeoff of the institution, which is set to commence academic activities in September 2025.
Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, also addressed the meeting, expressing optimism about the university’s impact on the state. “The establishment of the university will bring immense benefits to Kaduna State at large, creating job opportunities for local residents, attracting investments, and reducing educational disparity by providing access to affordable and quality tertiary education,” he remarked.
Governor Sani assured the Federal Government of Kaduna State’s full cooperation in ensuring the seamless transition and successful operations of the new university. “In the next seven days, I will hand over the Certificate of Occupancy for the university to the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa,” he confirmed.
The university’s establishment marks a new era in the development of education in Kaduna and Nigeria at large.
