WaterAid Nigeria has installed a state-of-the-art 12,000-litre water plant at the Odo-Nla Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ikorodu North, Lagos, enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.

This initiative is part of a broader renovation effort aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene in the facility.

Evelyn Mere, Country Director of WaterAid, emphasized the importance of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in healthcare settings.

“WaterAid is dedicated to ensuring that every healthcare facility in Nigeria, including Odo-Nla PHC, is equipped with sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure,” she stated.

The renovation also included the donation of WASH maintenance kits, contributing to a safer and more effective healthcare environment.

Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary for Lagos State Health District II, welcomed the renovation, noting that it would foster a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

“These WASH kits are a key part of our strategy to ensure that healthcare facilities are not just places of treatment but also safe environments that protect both patients and healthcare workers from preventable diseases,” Lajide said.

Ikorodu North LCDA Chairman, Adeola Banjo, also lauded the improvements, adding, “The inauguration of these WASH maintenance kits marks a pivotal moment for us. It is a clear sign that we are taking the right steps to improve sanitation and hygiene in our healthcare centres.”

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a formal agreement between WaterAid Nigeria and Ikorodu North LCDA to sustain the improvements at the Odo-Nla PHC.
