Several prominent political figures, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom, and other political leaders, paid a condolence visit to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following the death of his older brother. The visit took place on Wednesday at Governor Makinde’s Ikolaba residence in Ibadan.

Wike, accompanied by Ikpeazu, Ortom, and several other key figures such as Senators Philip Aduda, Mao Ohuabunwa, Olaka Nwogu, Sandy Onor, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, expressed solidarity with the grieving governor. In his remarks, Wike explained the bond between the G-5 Governors and Governor Makinde. “What affects him also affects the G-5 Governors,” Wike stated. He emphasized the personal nature of the loss, saying, “The loss of his older brother, who was also our senior brother, is also a loss to us.”

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was also part of the delegation, along with former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and political advisor Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye.

Chief George extended his condolences, offering prayers for the deceased and commending Makinde for his resilience. “Seyi, the younger brother, still has a lot of roles to play in the family and he is an asset to the people of Oyo State,” George remarked.

In his address, Wike reassured Governor Makinde of the G-5 Governors’ unwavering support during this difficult time. “We stand for fairness, equity, and justice in this country, and we believe that by the special grace of God, the older brother will rest in the bosom of the Lord,” he said. He also expressed confidence that God would grant Makinde and his family the strength to cope with the loss.

During the visit, Wike also touched on the state of the nation, offering optimism regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies. “Mr. President means well for the country, and Nigerians should look forward to better days,” Wike stated, encouraging citizens to remain patient as the government’s initiatives unfold.

Governor Makinde thanked the delegation for their thoughtful visit, acknowledging the support and comfort the leaders provided during his time of grief. “I appreciate all of you for coming to share in this moment of grief and offering your support,” he said, emphasizing the importance of solidarity during difficult times.

The condolence visit served not only to express sympathy but also to reaffirm the strong political ties within the G-5 Governors and their commitment to each other in times of both personal and political challenges.
