The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara over a letter sent to the state House of Assembly.

Fubara’s letter, which sought a meeting with lawmakers regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s political situation, was dismissed by Wike as “useless.”

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike argued that Fubara should have reached out directly to Speaker Martins Amaewhule instead of making the letter public.

“You have had a frosty relationship with an arm of government. If you are a good politician, will you go and write a letter? Is it by writing a letter signed by the SSG? What an insult! Is it how it is done?” Wike questioned.

The Supreme Court had recently ruled in favor of Amaewhule’s leadership, rejecting Fubara’s appeal. The court also blocked financial institutions from releasing funds to the Rivers State Government, citing disobedience of previous rulings.

In response, Fubara assured compliance and scheduled fresh local government elections for August 9, 2025. Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, invited lawmakers to a meeting on March 10 to discuss the 2025 budget and efforts to restore peace.

However, Wike insisted that true peace in the state would only come if the “right thing” was done.

“What is peace? What is more important than letting the right thing be done? When the right thing is done, there will be peace,” he stated.
