Twelve inmates broke out of the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, in a daring jailbreak early Monday morning.

The escape has raised alarms about the security protocols at the facility, prompting immediate action from local authorities.

Kogi State’s Information Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the incident as “unfortunate” and confirmed that an investigation would be launched in collaboration with security agencies to uncover how the escape occurred.

He highlighted concerns over the possibility that the escapees used the tower without causing any structural damage.

While one escapee has been recaptured, Fanwo urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, warning that anyone caught assisting the fugitives would face severe consequences.

Governor Usman Ododo has directed security forces to reinforce measures to prevent similar incidents.

“There is no cause for panic,” Fanwo reassured citizens, emphasizing that the security of lives and property remains a top priority.
