In a significant move to boost agricultural productivity and foster economic self-sufficiency, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed N400 million to 10 community interest groups of young people, empowering them to engage in agribusiness ventures.

The initiative is part of the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience Landscape (ACReSAL) program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the World Bank.

Each of the selected groups will receive N40 million ($25,000), with every member benefiting from at least N1 million to kickstart agricultural value chain businesses.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing climate resilience within agricultural practices and supporting the growth of sustainable agribusinesses in the region.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing the funds for long-term impact.

“Through the ACReSAL initiatives, our administration has made remarkable strides in tackling environmental challenges,” the Governor stated. “We are committed to ensuring that these funds will enable the youth to become self-sufficient and build resilient agricultural businesses.”

The program specifically targets the registration of community interest groups and farmers’ cooperatives in selected areas, focusing on enhancing climate resilience within the agricultural sector.

Governor Yusuf also urged the State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, to spearhead more strategic programs aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability. “I charge Dr. Dahir Hashim and his team to come up with more programs that will ensure our state’s future is environmentally friendly,” the Governor added.

The disbursement is expected to provide a significant boost to local agribusinesses, paving the way for economic growth and resilience in the face of climate challenges.
