Several notorious bandit leaders who have long terrorized the Batsari, Safana, and Jibia Local Government Areas of Katsina State have surrendered and laid down their arms following a series of intensified military operations.
The bandits, including Abu Radda, Umar Black, Abdullahi Lankai, Jijjige, and Dabar Musa Dan Gandu, all operating from the Jibia axis, voluntarily disarmed after sustained military pressure.
Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the military’s ongoing offensive against armed groups in the region pushed the bandits to seek peace. “The sustained onslaught has forced them to lay down their arms and seek a peaceful resolution,” the sources stated.
During their surrender, the repentant bandits appealed for assistance in reintegrating into society. “We request the construction of markets, hospitals, and access to clean water to help us rebuild our lives,” they said, stressing the need for alternative means of livelihood to help them transition away from their criminal past.
The surrender was facilitated by the National Community for Security and Societal Advancement in Katsina (NCSOSACK), led by Comrade Hamisa S. Batsari, who represented affected communities in the security dialogue.
The bandits handed over their weapons to the military and released several hostages they had previously kidnapped. “We vow to embrace peace and end our involvement in criminal activities,” they promised.
Top military officials welcomed the surrender but reiterated that operations against unrepentant bandits will continue. “Our operations will persist until total peace is restored in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and the entire North West region,” a senior military source stated.
This significant development marks a step toward peace in the region, as the military continues to press forward in its campaign against armed groups.
