Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Thursday, visited the Rimin Zakara community in Ungogo Local Government Area following a tragic incident that resulted in the loss of three lives and left several others injured during a demolition of buildings allegedly on land owned by Bayero University Kano (BUK).

During his visit, Governor Yusuf offered his condolences to the families of the victims, expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy.

He assured the families that the state government would provide support to help sustain the families of the deceased. “I am deeply saddened by this loss. The state government will ensure that the families of the deceased are taken care of during this difficult time,” he said.

The Governor also directed that the medical bills for the injured be covered immediately and ordered the provision of food items to support the affected families.

As a lasting tribute to the deceased, Governor Yusuf announced plans to construct a new Juma’at mosque in Rimin Zakara, which will serve as sadaqatu jariya (a lasting charity) in their memory. “This mosque will stand as a symbol of our respect and remembrance for those we have lost,” he added.

Additionally, Governor Yusuf unveiled a comprehensive development plan for the community, which includes connecting Rimin Zakara to the electricity grid, constructing solar-powered boreholes for clean water supply, establishing a primary health care center, and developing an access road to improve transportation in the area.

The Governor issued a stern warning to security forces, emphasizing that the use of live ammunition against innocent citizens would not be tolerated. “Security forces must exercise restraint, and such actions will not be accepted,” he stated.

Governor Yusuf also announced that the state government would engage with Bayero University management to address the long-standing land dispute between the institution and the community.

He directed the university to suspend all actions regarding the community until the issue is resolved. “We will not rest until the over 40-year-long land dispute between Rimin Zakara and Bayero University is fully addressed,” he assured the residents.

The Governor’s visit was well-received by the community, as his promises of support and development brought hope and relief during this challenging time.
