The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate revocation of all billboard and signage licences issued in 2024, with enforcement actions set to begin next week.
The decision comes as part of a broader effort to regulate and clean up visual advertisements across the state.
The announcement was made by Bolanle Olukoju, Chairman of the Kwara State Task Force Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages.
Olukoju, who also serves as the Commissioner for Communications, clarified that this move was in line with a previous suspension of all billboard licences.
Olukoju explained, “This initiative aligns with the Urban Renewal Programme of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration, which seeks to transform Kwara into a modern and visually appealing state.”
In addition to the revocation, the government warned that the identification and removal of unauthorised billboards, posters, and light pole banners across Ilorin and other urban centres would commence shortly.
Furthermore, no new signage or billboard licences will be issued or renewed until further notice.
Authorities are already identifying non-compliant billboards and urge their owners to remove them immediately.
