The Lagos State Government has announced a resumption schedule for students of secondary schools in the state.

The state’s commissioner for education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo has announced that the resumption will begin in batches starting from next Monday for the third term of the 2021/2022 academic year.

The statement was made available on Monday night by the head of the public affairs unit of the education ministry, Mr Ganiu Lawal.

According to the commissioner, all public and private primary and secondary schools, excluding the state model colleges and the upgraded secondary schools, will resume on Monday, September 13 as formerly scheduled, while students in model colleges and upgraded schools will resume in batches starting from Sunday, September 19.

Mrs Adefisayo explained that boarding students in SS2 class going to SS3 in model colleges and upgraded schools would resume first on Sunday, September 19, for a one-week revision exercise that would run from Monday, September 20 and last till Saturday for them to sit for their promotion examination beginning from the following Monday to  October 8.

She also noted that the newly admitted JS1 students into those colleges and upgraded schools would resume on Saturday, October 2 for a week orientation programme to familiarize them with the secondary school system.

So, students in other classes including JS2, JS3, SS1 and the newly transited SS2 in those colleges and upgraded schools, she added, are to resume on Saturday, October 9 and to start classes two days after.

The commissioner further explained that the staggering resumption for model colleges and upgraded schools was due to the presence of SS3 students, who are currently sitting for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) that is billed to end on October 6.

She said the government would not want the outgoing students disturbed more so that the hostels would not be able to accommodate them all together at the same time.

She, however, appealed to parents to abide by the development in order to have a smooth academic session while wishing all the students a successful session.
