Pascal Gabriel Dozie, the founder of the defunct Diamond Bank Plc and former chairman of MTN Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 85.
The business mogul died early on April 8, 2025, a statement from his family confirmed. His son, Uzoma Dozie, shared the sad news, saying, “With deep sorrow, but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our beloved father.”
Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie’s legacy spans Nigeria’s banking and telecom sectors.
He founded Diamond Bank in 1990, a key player in the country’s financial industry, before it merged with Access Bank. Dozie also helped launch MTN Nigeria, serving as its pioneering chairman.
In a touching tribute, his family emphasized his unwavering faith and dedication: “He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a man of unwavering Catholic faith. His life was marked by service – to God, his family, and his country.”
Dozie’s contributions earned him widespread respect, culminating in the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
