Sanwo-Olu: I Dedicate New Telegraph Award To 22 Million Lagosians

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo- Olu has dedicated New Telegraph ward for good governance to over 22 million estimated residents of Lagos, saying the recognition would further spur him to deliver more dividends of democracy.

Sanwo – Olu was selected and voted winner in that category among several outstanding personalities by the New Tclegraph’s Board of Editors for his contribution to the development of Lagos State. The governor emerged the winner following his giant strides in areas of health, infrastructure and human capital development.

Speaking when he received the prestigious award amid fanfare and the rousing ovation at the award ceremony held in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu hailed the good people of Lagos for their cooperation, endurance and perseverance in the implementation of his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

The governor, who also welcomed and congratulated other distinguished personalities and awardees, described the award as big honour not only for him but also for the entire millions of the people of Lagos, who have also been committed to the actualisation of good governance in the state.

He said: “Let me formally welcome all of you on behalf of good people of Lagos to the centre of excellence and we welcome to the state of aquatic splendor.

We want to welcome New Telegraph and the entire management and board to the heartbeat of the nation.

What Telegraph has done this evening is not only for me, it’s not about me, it’s about governance, it’s about truly really passing on the dividend of democracy to our citizens and indeed it’s an honour and with every strength of humil ity that I receive this award very heavy on behalf of the entire 22 million Lagosians who continue to support our government, who continue to see that indeed the journey of the greater Lagos is on us, who continue to bear with the little inconveniences of all of the infrastructure that we are doing, who continue to believe that indeed the hope is not lost on us and that who continue to encourage us to do more, to do better and to do all of the things that’s required.

On behalf of all you and.. Telegraph and.. the management, you have taken this to the higher level, we will do more.. Thank you very much.”

On his part, the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, described Sanwo-Olu as an uncommon governor, who is so passionate about the safety of lives and strived to ensure that the lives of his citizens are safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Sanwo-Olu is one man I saw running around with his Commissioner for Health to ensure that the lives of Lagosians are safe during the COVID-19,” Kalu said.

Other eminent Nigerians honoured at the colourful event were: the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; Ekiti State Governor, Mr Kayode Fayemi; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu; Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State; Prof Babagana Zulum of Borno State; Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Minister for Sport and Youth Development, Mr Sunday Dare; Minister of State Petroleum, Mr Timipre Silver among several other eminent Nigerians.

Congratulating Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, said his emergence among the 36 best speaks volumes of his outstanding performances and contribution to good governance through people’s oriented policies in the last two years.

“His vision for education, science and technology as exemplify in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda has brought technological innovation to secondary education in the state through Eko Digital Skill initiatives,” Wahab said.
